Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
We don't sell anything or take payments through this website. Payments, cancellations and refunds for our work are set out in your written contract and protected by California law. Here's how that works.
Estimates are free
Requesting an estimate through this website, by phone or by email costs nothing and doesn't commit you to anything.
Your written contract controls
Before any work begins, you'll receive a written contract stating the price, the payment schedule, the scope of work and your cancellation rights. The specific payment, change order and refund terms for your project are the ones in that contract.
Deposits and payments
For home improvement work, California law (Business and Professions Code §7159.5) means:
- Any down payment is limited to $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less.
- After the down payment, we won't ask for or accept payments that are more than the value of the work performed or materials delivered so far.
Your right to cancel
California law gives homeowners the right to cancel many home improvement contracts within a set number of business days after signing, with a longer period for homeowners who are senior citizens (California Civil Code §1689.6). The exact deadline and a Notice of Cancellation form are included in your contract. If you cancel within that period, any payment you made will be returned as the law requires.
To cancel, follow the instructions in your contract's Notice of Cancellation. You can also contact us at (949) 239-2700 or info@hcdhomes.com, but please also send the written notice your contract describes so your cancellation is documented.
Cancelling after the cancellation period
If a project is cancelled after the cancellation period, payments and any refunds are handled under the terms of your written contract.
Questions or concerns
If you have a concern about a payment, please contact us first and we'll work to resolve it. You can also learn about your rights or file a complaint with the California Contractors State License Board (opens in a new tab).
